Mrs. J.O. Jiya was nominated for the Best Staff Award by the Office of the Honourable Minister State based on her out-standing contributions on her job schedules. She hails from Gbako LGA of Niger State. Born on 13th January, 1963 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. After her primary education Sunnyfields Primary School Lagos, she attended Archbishop Aggrey Memorial School, Lagos in 1979 where she made a Grade 1 in her WAEC and proceeded to receive an LL.B. (Hons) degree at the then great University of Ife, Ile-Ife in 1984. Mrs. Jiya was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985.  She also received an M.P.A. Masters degree in Public Administration from the prestigious University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos in 2000 and holds an LL.M. Masters degree in International Commercial Law from The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland in 2010  respectively. She is a fellow  of:                       

     ·     Nigerian Bar Association;

     ·     International Bar Association; and

  • International Federation of Women Lawyers.

In her current position as the Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development Abuja-Office of the Honourable Minister of State,her Job schedules are:

Drafting, Vetting and Finalising Contract Agreements and MOUs between the Ministry and Local and International parties on matters affecting the Ministry; Rendering legal opinion on matters affecting the Ministry; Assisting the HMS with the Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation of the Growth Enhancement Support (GES) in the various states; Attending local and International meetings on issues affecting the Ministry and Attending Management & Policy meetings with and on behalf of the HMS.

During the course of her career, she was a member of the team that negotiated and secured Nigeria’s historic exit from the Paris and London Club debts. She also drafted legal bills on the functions of Debt Management Office; Participated in rescheduling/negotiations of Nigeria’s debts; Drafted Bilateral Agreements and Vetted Bilateral Agreements by and for the attention of Nigeria’s Creditors; Prepared   Memorandum for adoption by Management for Federal Executive Council’s consideration and approval; Handled Administrative matters and participating in the policy and decision making process with emphasis on the legal aspects; Giving general legal advice on matters referred to the Debt Management Office.

Mrs. Jiya has served in various capacities and had attended many Courses/Workshops/Tours both locally and internationally to her credit.  She is married with Children.
