The government of Spain has offered to provide technological support to Nigeria in the agricultural sector to help the nation meet its target in the diversification of the economy.
The pledge was made when the Ambassador of Spain to Nigeria – Alfonso Barnuevo visited the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development- Chief Audu Ogbeh in his office in Abuja.
Addressing the Honourable Minister, the ambassador noted that Spain has one of the best technologies and largest surface greenhouse extensions in the world and the expertise that can help advance Nigeria’s quest to grow its economy through agriculture.
He added that Spain had already invested in agriculture, capacity building and knowledge in Nigeria and is currently involved in the cultivation of 250 productive lands in Ogun State; and looks forward to doing more in the new dispensation.
Responding, the minister expressed delight at the prospect of the partnership and stated that Nigeria is eager to take advantage of Spain’s high quality seeds, their technological know-how in vegetables/food production and greenhouses; and also look forward to exporting Nigerian indigenous crops like cashew nuts, avocado pears, mangos and lemon grass; to boost the nation’s move towards food self-sufficiency and minimize food importation.
